I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "When a dog drinks from one of your vessels, wash it seven times. And when the strap of one of your sandals breaks, do not walk in the other sandal until you have repaired it."
حدثنا أبو معاوية حدثنا الأعمش عن أبي صالح وأبي رزين
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إذا ولغ الكلب في إناء أحدكم فليغسله سبع مرات وإذا انقطع شسع أحدكم فلا يمشي في نعله الأخرى حتى يصلحها
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Razin is Masud, the freedman of Abu Waail al-Asadi, and we have already pointed to the verification of this at 7432. The hadith is actually two hadiths, but Abu Hurairah, or one of the narrators after him, related them in the form of a single hadith. The first of them concerns washing the vessel after a dog laps from it, which has already appeared through the route of Abu Zinad, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, at 7341 and 7342. The second concerns the prohibition of walking in a single sandal, whose meaning has already appeared at length at 7343, also through the route of Abu Zinad from Araj.His statement here, "and if it breaks, etc.," appears in ص as "then if it breaks." And his statement, "he should not walk," is written this way with the letter ya affirmed in ق ك م, while in ص it appears as "he should not walk" without the ya.
