The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever relieves a believer of one of the hardships of this world, Allah will relieve him of one of the hardships of the Day of Resurrection. Whoever shields a Muslim, Allah will shield him in this world and the next. Whoever eases the burden of one in difficulty, Allah will ease his burden in this world and the next. Allah is at the servant's aid as long as the servant is at his brother's aid. Whoever travels a path seeking knowledge, Allah will smooth for him by it a path to Paradise. No group gathers in one of the houses of Allah, reciting the book of Allah and studying it together, without tranquility descending upon them, mercy enveloping them, the angels surrounding them, and Allah mentioning them among those with Him. And whoever is held back by his deeds will not be hastened forward by his lineage."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Muslim narrated it 2:311, and Ibn Majah 225, both through Abu Muawiya, from Amash, in this wording. Muslim then narrated it right after, through Ibn Numayr, from Amash. Abu Dawud narrated 4362, 3:255 [Awn al-Mabud], a portion of it through Zaida, from Amash. Tirmidhi also narrated a portion of it, 3:269, through Abu Usama, from Amash. Ibn Hibban narrated two portions of it in his Sahih, 84 [in our edition], through Muhammad bin Khazim, who is Abu Muawiya, and [2:119–120] from the manuscript of Ihsan, through Muhadir bin Muwarri, both of them from Amash."Nafas" (نَفَّس), with the fa doubled, comes from tanfis, meaning he relieved him.As for his saying, "and whoever eases things for one in difficulty," in J it reads "an one in difficulty" (عن معسر), which is an error. We have corrected it based on K and the rest of the narrations.
