The Prophet ﷺ said, "We have not made peace with them since we went to war with them," meaning snakes.
قال قرئ على سفيان سمعت ابن عجلان عن بكير بن عبد الله عن عجلان
عن النبي ﷺ ما سالمناهن منذ حاربناهن يعني الحيات
Its isnad is sahih, and it is abridged.Abu Dawud narrated it (4:534, 1524, 8, Awn al-Mabud) from Ishaq bin Ismail, from Sufyan, with this same isnad, adding at the end, "Whoever leaves out any of them out of fear is not one of us."It will come at greater length with similar wording at 9586 and 10752, but there it is narrated by Ibn Ajlan from his father, without the intermediary of Bukayr bin Abdullah. Ibn Ajlan explicitly stated, in the first of those two, that he heard it directly from his father, saying, "I heard my father." So it appears that he heard it from Bukayr, and also heard it from his father, and narrated it both ways.Something similar in meaning has already appeared in the hadith of Ibn Abbas at 2037 and 3254, and something close in meaning in the hadith of Ibn Masud at 3984. See also what has already appeared in the hadith of Ibn Umar at 4557.
