The Prophet ﷺ said that Allah said, "A vow does not bring to the son of Adam anything I have not already decreed for him, but it is something through which I extract from the miser. He gives Me on account of it what he would not give Me out of his stinginess."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Bukhari related it with a similar meaning, at greater length, 11:502–503, through the narration of Shuayb, from Abu Zinad, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, as a marfu report. But he did not state explicitly in it the words "Allah said." Hafiz said, "This is one of the hadiths qudsi, but the explicit attribution to Allah has dropped out of it." He then pointed to some of its narrations found in Abu Dawud, Nasai, and Ibn Majah, but did not mention this narration from the Musnad.Muslim related it, 2:12, with a similar meaning, through the route of Amr bin Abu Amr, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah, as a marfu report. But he did not mention it in a way that indicates it is a hadith qudsi.Abu Dawud related it, 3288 [3:228 of Awn al-Mabud], with a similar meaning, as a hadith qudsi, but without stating that explicitly, through the route of Malik, from Abu Zinad, from Araj, from Abu Hurairah. Its commentator said, "This hadith is found in some of the sahih copies, but it is not in the narration of Lului, and for that reason Munziri did not mention it in his abridgment. Rather, the hadith comes only through the narration of Abu Hasan bin Abd, from Abu Dawud." Likewise, Hafiz stated explicitly in al-Fath that it comes from the narration of Ibn Abd.Part of its meaning has already passed in the hadith of Abu Hurairah, 7207. Its meaning will also come again in his hadith, 8137, 8847, 9329, and 9964. See also what has already passed in the Musnad of Abdullah bin Umar, 5275, 5592, and 5994.
