Its chain of transmission is sahih. Khubayb - with the kha pointed and vowelled with damma - bin Abdul-Rahman, his reliability was established earlier at 4858, and we add here that Ibn Abu Hatim gave his biography in al-Jarh wal-Tadil 1/2/387. Hafs bin Asim bin Umar bin Khattab, his reliability was established earlier at 4761, and we add here that Ibn Abu Hatim gave his biography at 1/2/184.This is how Ahmad narrated it here, from Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi from Malik, from the hadith of Abu Hurairah alone. It is found in the Muwatta, page 197, from Abu Hurairah or from Abu Saeed Khudri, expressed with doubt, and it will come at 10009, from the narration of Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi from Malik, with the same doubt as in the narration of the Muwatta. It will also come in the Musnad of Abu Saeed Khudri at 11016, from the narration of Rawh from Malik, with this same chain, from Abu Hurairah and Abu Saeed, joined by "and" rather than expressed with doubt.Ibn Abdul-Barr said in al-Taqassi, number 49, "This hadith was narrated by Rawh bin Ubada, Maen bin Isa, and Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi, from Malik, from Khubayb, from Hafs, from Abu Hurairah and Abu Saeed together, combining the two rather than expressing doubt about which of them it was. The rest of the narrators of the Muwatta narrated it with doubt, as Yahya narrated it. Ubaydullah bin Umar narrated it from Khubayb bin Abdul-Rahman, from Hafs bin Asim, from Abu Hurairah alone, from the Prophet." Ubaydullah bin Umar is one of the leading scholars of the people of Madinah in hadith.The narration of Ubaydullah bin Umar al-Umari from Khubayb, to which Ibn Abdul-Barr referred, will come at 8872, from Muhammad bin Ubayd, and at 9639, from Yahya, both of them from Ubaydullah, with this chain. Bukhari likewise narrated it at 57:3 and 4:85, from Musaddad from Yahya, and Muslim at 1:391, from Zuhayr bin Harb and Muhammad bin Muthanna from Yahya bin Saeed, and from Ibn Numayr from his father, both of them from Ubaydullah, with this chain.
