The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded the killing of the two black ones during prayer.I asked Yahya, "What does he mean by the two black ones?"He replied, "The snake and the scorpion."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Damdam is Ibn Jaws Hifani Yamani, and he is trustworthy. Ibn Main, Ajli, and others confirmed his reliability. Bukhari gave his biography in Al-Kabir 338/2/2–339, as did Ibn Saad in Tabaqat 403:5, and Ibn Abu Hatim in Jarh wat-Tadil 467/1/2–468. Ibn Hibban mentioned him in Thiqat p. 227 under the name Damdam bin Harith bin Jaws, and said, Whoever says Damdam bin Jaws has attributed him to his grandfather.Damdam is spelled with two dotted dhad letters, both with fatha, separated by a silent mim. Jaws is spelled with a fatha on the jim, a silent waw, and ends with a plain sin. Hifani is spelled with a kasra on the ha and a doubled fa, in relation to Hifan, from Banu Hanifa. This hadith will appear again several times, at 7373, 7463, 7804, 10120, 10157, and 10362. Abu Dawud narrated it [1/921, 346 in Awn al-Mabud], as did Tirmidhi 1:301 and Ibn Majah 1:194, all of them through Yahya bin Abu Kathir from Damdam. Tirmidhi said, This hadith is hasan sahih.Hakim narrated it in Mustadrak 256:1 through two chains, one from Sufyan from Mamar, and another from Qutayi from Abdullah bin Ahmad from his father from Abdul-Ala bin Abdul-Ala from Mamar, with this same chain, and he said, This hadith is sahih, and the two of them (Bukhari and Muslim) did not record it.Damdam bin Jaws was among the trustworthy people of Yamama. He heard from a group of the companions, and Yahya bin Abu Kathir narrated from him. Ahmad bin Hanbal confirmed his reliability. This chain, from Ahmad's narration through Abdul-Ala, is not found in the Musnad. It is among what Abdullah narrated from his father outside the Musnad. The Hafiz attributed it, in Tahdhib, in the biography of Damdam, to Ibn Hibban in his Sahih as well.
