The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade drinking directly from the mouth of a waterskin. Ayub said, "I was told that a man drank from the mouth of a waterskin and a snake came out of it."
حدثنا إسماعيل أخبرنا أيوب عن عكرمة
أن رسول الله ﷺ نهى أن يشرب من في السقاء قال أيوب فأنبئت أن رجلا شرب من في السقاء فخرجت حية
Its isnad is sahih. Ikrima is the freed slave of Ibn Abbas. Bukhari related the hadith at 79:10, from Musaddad from Ismail, with this isnad, but he did not mention the words attributed to Ayub at its end. The Hafiz pointed out in al-Fath that this addition appears in Ahmad and Ismaili, then said, "Hakim erred, for he included the hadith with this addition in al-Mustadrak." The addition mentioned is not according to the standard of sahih, because its narrator is not named and it is not connected, but Ibn Majah related it, through the narration of Salama bin Wahram from Ikrima, in a manner similar to the raised hadith, ending with, "A man got up at night, after the prohibition, to a waterskin and bent it open, and a snake came out at him from it." The Hafiz was correct in his critique of Hakim. The hadith is found in his al-Mustadrak at 140:4, by the route of Musaddad from Ismail. Hakim said, "Sahih according to the standard of Bukhari, yet neither of the two collectors included it!" It is astonishing that Dhahabi agreed with him on this. As for what the Hafiz mentioned regarding the narration of Ibn Majah, his wording gives the impression that it is from the hadith of Abu Hurairah, whereas what is in Ibn Majah at 2:175 is only from the narration of Salama bin Wahram from Ikrima from Ibn Abbas. So the Hafiz was not precise when he stated the narration without clarification. Bukhari also related the hadith at 10:78, in similar wording, by the route of Sufyan from Ayub. The hadith of Ibn Abbas on this matter has appeared repeatedly before, including at 1989 and 3143, and this addition is not found in it.
