The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed the funeral prayer for Najashi and pronounced the takbir four times.

Its isnad is sahih. It will come again at length several times, including at 7763 from Abdul-Razzaq from Mamar. See also 2292 and 2781. Malik related it at length in Muwatta, pp. 226-227, from Ibn Shihab, who is Zuhri, from Saeed bin Musayab. Tayalisi related it with two isnads from Zuhri at 2296 and 2300, and it was also related by the compilers of the six books, as in Al-Muntaqa 1832.Regarding Najashi, Suyuti quoted in Sharh Muwatta 1:226 from Ibn Abdul-Barr, who said, it is a title given to every ruler of Abyssinia, just as one says Kisra and Qaysar. His name was Ashama, which in Arabic is Atiya, and news of his death reached them in the ninth year after the Hijrah. Ibn Athir said, the ya is doubled, though it has been said that the correct form is without doubling.
