Ahmad 7132

Its isnad is sahih. In the chapter of Umar bin Abu Salama from Abu Hurairah, the phrase [from his father] was dropped, which is an obvious printing error, and we have corrected it from K and M.Suyuti mentioned this hadith in Jami Saghir (6127) and attributed it to Ahmad alone. Haythami mentioned it in Majma al-Zawaid (5:166) at length, with the wording, "The people of shirk let their mustaches grow long and trim their beards short, so oppose them, let your beards grow and trim your mustaches." He then said, Tabarani related it with two isnads, in one of which is Umar bin Abu Salama, whom Ibn Main and others considered trustworthy while Shuba and others considered him weak, and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy.He then mentioned it at length within another hadith on page 168, attributing it to Tabarani in Al-Awsat with another daif isnad. Its meaning has already appeared many times with sahih isnads, from the hadith of Ibn Umar, the last of them being 6456.
