I went out with my father until we came to the Prophet ﷺ, and I saw traces of henna on his head.

Its isnad is sahih. Sufyan is Thawri. Iyad bin Laqeet Sadusi, his reliability was already established at 5694, and we add here that Ibn Abu Hatim gave him a biographical entry in al-Jarh wal-Tadil 1/1/345.The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud, 4208, 4/138 of Awn al-Mabud, at length, through Abdul-Rahman bin Mahdi from Sufyan, and Nasai narrated it, 2/279, in brief, with two chains, also through Ibn Mahdi. Abu Dawud also narrated it, 4206, 4/137-138 of Awn al-Mabud, at length, through Abdullah bin Iyad from his father, and it will come at length at 17566, through Waki, with this same isnad, and its meaning will also come within other narrations at 7116, 7109, 7111, 17564, 17566, 17569-17571, 17573.Trace of henna, the word "radaa," with fatha on the ra, sukun on the dal, and ending in ayn, all unpointed letters, refers to the mark left by khaluq perfume, scent, and similar substances on the body.
