The Messenger of Allah ﷺ watched the sun as it was setting and said, "It is in the blazing fire of Allah. Were it not for what restrains it by Allah's command, it would destroy everything on the earth."
حدثنا يزيد بن هارون أخبرنا العوام حدثني مولى لعبد الله بن عمرو

Its chain of transmission is daif, due to the unknown identity of the freedman of Abdullah bin Amr, its narrator. Awwam is Ibn Hawshab.Tabari related this hadith in his tafsir 16:10, from Muhammad bin Muthanna, from Yazid bin Harun, with this chain. Ibn Kathir mentioned it in his tafsir 5:325, citing Tabari's narration, then said, Imam Ahmad also related it from Yazid bin Harun. There is doubt about the soundness of attributing this hadith to the Prophet as a marfu narration. It may instead be from the words of Abdullah bin Amr, from the two saddlebags he found on the Day of Yarmuk.Haythami mentioned it in Majma al-Zawaid 8:131, and said, Ahmad related it, and in it is a narrator who is not named, while the rest of its men are trustworthy. Suyuti mentioned it in Durr Manthur 4:248, and attributed it also to Ibn Abu Shayba, Ibn Munee, Abu Yaala, and Ibn Mardawayh.His saying, "were it not that it restrains," means that it holds back and prevents, as one says, wazaahu yazi'uhu waz'an, meaning he restrained him and stopped him.
