I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when a man from Mazina asked him about a stray camel. He said, "It has its hooves and its water supply with it. It eats from trees and comes to water. Leave it alone until its owner comes looking for it."The man asked him about a stray sheep, and he said, "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf. Gather it to yourself until its owner comes looking for it."He asked him about livestock guarded in its pasture, and he said, "Concerning it, twice its value must be paid, along with a punitive penalty. As for what is taken from its enclosure, the hand is to be cut off if what is taken from there reaches the value of a shield."The man then asked him, "Messenger of Allah, what about a lost item we find on a frequented road?"He said, "Announce it for a year. If its owner comes, give it to him. Otherwise, it is yours."The man asked, "Messenger of Allah, what about what is found in ancient ruins?"He said, "On that, and on buried treasure, a fifth is due."

سمعت رسول الله ﷺ ورجلا من مزينة يسأله عن ضالة الإبل فقال معها حذاؤها وسقاؤها تأكل الشجر وترد الماء فذرها حتى يأتي باغيها قال وسأله عن ضالة الغنم فقال لك أو لأخيك أو للذئب اجمعها إليك حتى يأتي باغيها وسأله عن الحريسة التي توجد في مراتعها قال فقال فيها ثمنها مرتين وضرب نكال قال فما أخذ من أعطانه ففيه القطع إذا بلغ ما يؤخذ من ذلك ثمن المجن فسأله فقال يا رسول الله اللقطة نجدها في السبيل العامر قال عرفها سنة فإن جاء صاحبها وإلا فهي لك قال يا رسول الله ما يوجد في الخراب العادي قال فيه وفي الركاز الخمس
