Abdullah bin Amr bin As reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Recite the Quran in a month."I said, "I am able to do more than that."I kept pressing him until he said, "Recite the Quran in five days, and fast three days each month."I said, "I am able to do more than that."He replied, "Then fast the most beloved fast to Allah , the fast of Dawud . He used to fast one day and break his fast the next."

حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن عمرو بن دينار عن أبي العباس يحدث

عن عبد الله بن عمرو قال

قال لي رسول الله ﷺ اقرإ القرآن في شهر فقلت إني أطيق أكثر من ذلك فلم أزل أطلب إليه حتى قال اقرإ القرآن في خمسة أيام وصم ثلاثة أيام من الشهر قلت إني أطيق أكثر من ذلك قال فصم أحب الصوم إلى الله عز وجل صوم داود عليه السلام كان يصوم يوما ويفطر يوما
