A freed slave of Abdullah bin Amr said to him, "I want to stay here in Bayt al-Maqdis for this month."Abdullah asked him, "Have you left enough provisions for your family to sustain them this month?"He replied, "No."Abdullah said, "Then return to your family and leave them enough to sustain them, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'It is sin enough for a man to neglect those he is responsible to feed.'"
Its isnad is sahih, and this is a longer version of 6495, 6819, 6828. This longer version was also narrated by Tayalisi (2281) from Shubah, with this same isnad. Bayhaqi narrated it in Sunan al-Kubra (7:467) by way of Tayalisi. Hakim narrated it in Mustadrak (4:500-501) as a longer story, even longer than the version here, by way of Abdul-Razzaq from Mamar from Abu Ishaq, and said, "Sahih according to the standard of the two Shaikhs, though they did not include it." Dhahabi agreed with him. See also Tafsir Ibn Kathir (2:445).
