A man said to Abdullah bin Umar, "Tell me what you heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and leave aside what you found in your load on the day of Yarmuk."He replied, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe.'"
Its isnad is very daif, though the text of the marfu hadith is sahih through a route other than this one.Hakam, this is Ibn Utayba, the well-known thiqah.Sayf, Husayni gave his biography in al-Ikmal, p. 50, and said, "Ibn Hibban mentioned him in al-Thiqat." He appears in the manuscript of al-Thiqat that I have, 2:204, where it says, "Sayf, a shaykh who narrates from Rashid Hijri, and Hakam bin Utayba narrated from him." Hafiz said in al-Taajil, p. 174, "He is majhul." Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir, 2/172/2, saying, "Sayf, seller of Sabiri cloth, from Rashid Hijri, Hakam bin Utayba narrated from him," without mentioning any criticism of him. This, along with Ibn Hibban's declaration of his reliability, is sufficient to establish his thiqah status.Rashid, with damma on the ra and fatha on the shin, Hijri, is very daif. Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir, 1/2/305, and weakened him by allusion, as was his custom, saying, "People speak critically of Rashid." Nasai said in al-Duafa, p. 12, "He is not strong." Ibn Main said, "His hadith is not worth anything." Juzjani said, "A liar, not trustworthy." Ibn Hibban said, "He believed in al-Rajaa." He has a detailed biography in Lisan Mizan, 2:460-461.As for his father, he is majhul, an unidentified unnamed person. Nothing is mentioned about him except what appears in the narration, "Rashid Hijri, from his father," and he is not named either in the narration or in Rashid's biography. In fact, he is not even mentioned among the unnamed narrators in al-Ikmal or al-Taajil.This hadith was narrated by Bukhari in al-Kabir under the biography of Rashid Hijri, abridged as was his custom, "Rashid Hijri, from his father, from Abdullah bin Amr, who heard the Prophet ﷺ say, 'The Muslim is the one from whose tongue and hand the Muslims are safe.'" This was stated by Adam, from Shuba, from Hakam, from Sayf, seller of Sabiri cloth. Adam is Ibn Abu Iyas, one of Bukhari's shaykhs. He then narrated it again, abridged, under the biography of Sayf, seller of Sabiri cloth, "Abu Bakr said to me, Ghundar narrated to us, from Shuba, from Hakam, I heard Sayf, from Rashid Hijri, from his father, from Abdullah bin Amr," and he mentioned it as marfu. It will come again after this from this same route as well. This marfu hadith is sahih through a route other than this one, with an isnad other than this one. It has already been given with sahih chains, both at length and abridged, at 6487, 6515, 6753, 6792, 6806.
