The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about the aqiqah, and he said, "I do not like the word uquq. Whoever has a child born to him and wishes to offer a sacrifice on its behalf, let him do so. For a boy, two comparable sheep, and for a girl, one sheep."

سئل رسول الله ﷺ عن العقيقة فقال لا أحب العقوق ومن ولد له مولود فأحب أن ينسك عنه فليفعل عن الغلام شاتان مكافأتان وعن الجارية شاة
Its isnad is sahih. It is an abridgment of 6713. See also 6737. The word "mukafaatan" is written this way with the alif in K and H, while in M it is written "mukafi'atan," and we have explained that in the previous narration.
