The Prophet ﷺ said regarding the verse "And you make your provision that you deny" [Waqiah 56:82], "It refers to your associating partners with Allah by saying, 'We were given rain by such-and-such a celestial event, by such-and-such a star.'"
Its isnad is daif due to the weakness of Abdul-Ala bin Amir Thalabi. Ibn Kathir mentioned it in his tafsir, 8/208, alongside the narration that follows, no. 849, then said, "This is how Ibn Abu Hatim narrated it from his father from Muhammad bin Ibrahim Nahdi, and Ibn Jareer narrated it from Muhammad bin Muthanna from Ubaydullah bin Musa, and from Yaqub bin Ibrahim from Yahya bin Abu Bukayr, all three of them from Israil with the same wording, raised to the Prophet. Tirmidhi likewise narrated it from Ahmad bin Mani from Husayn bin Muhammad, that is, Marwazi, with the same wording, and said, hasan gharib. Sufyan Thawri narrated it from Abdul-Ala without raising it to the Prophet."The account will come later at no. 850, where Muammal said, "I said to Sufyan, 'Israil raised it to the Prophet?' He said, 'Mere children, mere children!'"
