Its chain of transmission is sahih. The hadith is abridged (6681), except that the ruling on the blood money for teeth was not mentioned in that longer version.This ruling was narrated by Abu Dawud (4563 - Awn al-Mabud 4:313), through the narration of Husayn al-Muallim from Amr bin Shuayb from his father from his grandfather, with the wording, "For the teeth, five for each." Nasai (2:251) also narrated it through the route of Husayn, abridged, then narrated it through the route of Matar al-Warraq from Amr bin Shuayb, with the wording, "The teeth are equal, five for each." See what has already passed in Musnad Ibn Abbas (2621, 2624).As for Ahmad's statement after the hadith, "Muhammad said, 'And I heard Makhul...'" and so on, he means by this that Makhul did not narrate it from the Prophet ﷺ, but rather made it a statement of his own. He does not mean by this to cast doubt on the hadith, but rather to clarify the two routes. In fact, he may be indicating the soundness of the connected narration, because Muhammad bin Rashid was known for narrating from Makhul and for his special connection to him. He had thus preserved both narrations, so that no one would suppose that his narration from Sulayman bin Musa was an error on his part or on the part of one of those who narrated from him, since he had verified both of them with certainty. That is why Imam Ahmad followed the two narrations with Abdul-Razzaq's praise of Muhammad bin Rashid for his scrupulousness in narration.
