I was a man who experienced frequent prostatic fluid discharge, so I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about it. He said, "As for semen, it requires a full bath, and as for prostatic fluid, it requires only ablution."
Its isnad is sahih. Yazid bin Abu Ziyad is Abu Abdullah Qurashi, a client of Banu Hashim, and he is trustworthy. Ahmad bin Salih Misri said, "Trustworthy, and I am not pleased with the statement of those who criticized him." There is much disagreement about him, but the correct view is what we have stated. Bukhari gave him an entry in Tarikh al-Kabir 4/2/334 and mentioned no criticism of him.Shawkani erred in 1/275 when he declared him severely daif, as though he had confused him with Yazid bin Ziyad, also called Ibn Abu Ziyad Qurashi Dimashqi. He then erred again by claiming that the hadith is mursal on the grounds that Ibn Abu Layla did not hear from Ali. In fact he did hear from him, as Ibn Main explicitly stated, and as will be made explicit regarding his hearing in hadith 890.The hadith was narrated by Tirmidhi, and we discussed it at length in our commentary on it (1/193–197). Tirmidhi said, "This is a hasan sahih hadith." It was also narrated by Ibn Majah, 1/94, and it will come again repeatedly at 811, 869, 890, 891, 893, and 977. See also 618.At the beginning of the isnad in H it reads, "Khalaf bin Abu Jafar narrated to us," which is an error we have corrected from K and H, since there is no one by this name among the narrators or among the teachers of Ahmad.
