Its isnad is sahih. Sufyan is Thawri. Masaar is Ibn Kidam bin Zuhayr Hilali Amiri Rawasi, whose reliability was established earlier at 744, and here we add Ahmad's statement, he was trustworthy, well-mannered, and among the best, the trustworthy ones being Shuba and Masaar. Ibn Ammar said, "Masaar is an authority, and who in Kufa is his equal?" Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 4/2/13, and quoted from Yahya Qattan, who said, "I never saw anyone like Masaar, he was among the most firmly reliable of people."Masaar is spelled with a kasra on the mim, a sakin sin, and a fatha on the unpointed ain. Kidam is spelled with a kasra on the kaf and an unshortened unpointed dal. Zuhayr has a damma on the pointed dha. And Rawasi has a fatha on the ra and a doubled fatha-vowelled waw. Ibn Athir said in al-Lubab (1:478), "This attribution is also traced to 'the head' (ra's), and the correct form uses a hamza in place of the waw, but the scholars of hadith use the waw, and so we follow them. Among them is Masaar bin Kidam Rawasi, one of the leading scholars of Kufa. He was called this because of the largeness of his head."The hadith was narrated by Ibn Majah, 1:268, from Waki, with this isnad, and it was narrated by Khatib in Tarikh Baghdad, 1:307, through the route of Yazid bin Harun, from Thawri, from Habib bin Abu Thabit. This is in reality a fragment from the narrations of hadith 6277, in the story of Abdullah bin Amr's diligence in worship, and we have already indicated there, as far as we were able, most of its narrations. The wording given here was narrated by Bukhari, 4:192–193, Muslim, 1:220, and Nasai, 1:323, all three through the route of Ibn Jurayj, from Ata bin Abu Rabah, from Abu Abbas, from Abdullah bin Amr, as part of a lengthy fragment of the story of his diligence in worship. It was also narrated by Tayalisi, 2255, as part of a fragment of it as well, from Shuba, from Habib, from Abu Abbas.
