I memorized the Quran and recited the whole of it every night. News of this reached the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "I fear that with the passage of time you may grow weary of it. Recite it once a month."I said, "Messenger of Allah, let me benefit from my strength and youth."He said, "Then recite it every twenty days."I said, "Messenger of Allah, let me benefit from my strength and youth."He said, "Then recite it every ten days."I said, "Messenger of Allah, let me benefit from my strength and youth."He said, "Then recite it every seven days."I said, "Messenger of Allah, let me benefit from my strength and youth," but he refused.
حدثنا يحيى عن ابن جريج عن ابن أبي مليكة عن يحيى بن حكيم بن صفوان
جمعت القرآن فقرأت به في كل ليلة فبلغ ذلك رسول الله ﷺ فقال إني أخشى أن يطول عليك زمان أن تمل اقرأه في كل شهر قلت يا رسول الله دعني أستمتع من قوتي وشبابي قال اقرأه في كل عشرين قلت يا رسول الله دعني أستمتع من قوتي وشبابي قال اقرأه في كل عشر قلت يا رسول الله دعني أستمتع من قوتي وشبابي قال اقرأه في كل سبع قلت يا رسول الله دعني أستمتع من قوتي وشبابي فأبى
