When the Prophet ﷺ forbade the use of certain vessels, the people said, "Not everyone can find a waterskin." So he granted permission to use the earthenware jar, provided it was not coated with pitch.
حدثنا سفيان عن سليمان الأحول عن مجاهد عن أبي عياض
لما نهى النبي ﷺ عن الأوعية قالوا ليس كل الناس يجد سقاء فأرخص في الجر غير المزفت
Its isnad is sahih. Sulayman Ahwal is Sulayman bin Abu Muslim, whose reliability we established earlier at 1935, and we add here that Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 2/2/38.Abu Ayyad, we established his reliability earlier at 3818, and that the correct view is that he is Amr bin Aswad Ansi, and we add here that this is also what Ibn Abu Hatim determined, giving his biography in al-Jarh wal-Tadil 3/1/220-221 under the name Amr bin Aswad Ansi. Ansi is spelled with the letters ayn and nun, and it occurs in al-Jarh wal-Tadil and in some references as Qaysi, which is a scribal error.A useful note, Hafiz Abu Fadl Maqdisi gave a biography of Amr bin Aswad in his book al-Jamu bayna Rijal al-Sahihayn (p. 372) and listed him among those narrated from only by Muslim, but this is a mistake, since Bukhari also narrated this very hadith from him, as will be shown. This hadith was narrated by Bukhari 10:51-53 with his isnad through Sufyan bin Uyayna, with this wording, and likewise Muslim narrated it 2:130 through Sufyan. Nasai narrated it 2:329 in abridged form, also through Sufyan. Nabulsi failed, in Dhakhair al-Mawarith 4544, to attribute it to Nasai, though it is indeed found there.Bayhaqi narrated it in Sunan al-Kubra 8:310 through Shafii and through Musnad Ahmad, with this same isnad. Abu Dawud narrated something of similar meaning at 2700 (3:383 of Awn al-Mabud), through Sharik, from Ziyad bin Fayyad, from Abu Ayyad.See also 6416 and 6441.
