The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Among the trees there is one whose leaves do not fall, and it is like the Muslim man."The people began guessing about the trees of the desert. I was among the youngest there, and it occurred to me that it was the date palm, but I kept silent.Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "It is the date palm."I mentioned this to my father, and he said, "For you to have said it would have been dearer to me than such and such."
حدثنا عمر بن سعد وهو أبو داود الحفري حدثنا سفيان عن عبد الله بن دينار
قال رسول الله ﷺ إن من الشجر شجرة لا يسقط ورقها وإنها مثل الرجل المسلم قال فوقع الناس في شجر البوادي وكنت من أحدث الناس ووقع في صدري أنها النخلة فقال رسول الله ﷺ هي النخلة قال فذكرت ذلك لأبي فقال لأن تكون قلته أحب إلي من كذا وكذا
Its isnad is sahih. Sufyan is Thawri. The hadith is a repetition of 605-2.His saying, "and I was among the youngest of the people," in M the word "the people" was marked "correct," and in the margin is the variant reading "the group."
