Its isnad is sahih. Ibn Majah related it (2:155-156) through Hajjaj bin Muhammad, from Ibn Jurayj, with the same wording.Its commentator Sindi quoted from Busiri's Zawaid bin Majah, who said, "Its isnad is sahih, its narrators are trustworthy, provided that Ibn Jurayj heard it from Sulayman bin Musa."This qualification is not a good one, for Ibn Jurayj heard from Nafi and narrated from him directly, yet here he narrated from him through the intermediary of Sulayman bin Musa. So if he had wanted to conceal the chain, as Busiri's statement implies, he would have done so by dropping out Sulayman bin Musa. But there is a difference here, for Ibn Jurayj said in this instance, "Sulayman bin Musa said to me," making the hearing explicit. The word "to me" we have added from the manuscript m, in its margin, and it is also found in manuscript k between the lines, marked with an unclear sign, whether a correction mark or a variant reading mark, but it is confirmed in any case.Suyuti mentioned this hadith in Jami Saghir (1232) and attributed it to Ibn Majah alone, but his commentator Munawi added that Nasai had also related it. I have not found it in Nasai, and I think this is a mistake on Munawi's part, for if Nasai had related it, Busiri would not have mentioned it among the additions of Ibn Majah.
