The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out with a group of his companions, among them Umar bin Khattab, and came upon Ibn Sayyad, a boy nearing puberty, playing with other boys near the fortress of Banu Muawiya. He then mentioned the rest of the meaning.
Its chain is sahih, and it is a repetition of the one before it with the same chain. This is how it was found in the manuscripts, and we do not know the reason for its repetition twice in one place like this. It appears that Ahmad narrated it twice from Yaqub with this wording, so Abdullah recorded it just as he heard it from his father.Muslim narrated it, 2:274, from Hasan bin Ali Hulwani and Abd bin Humayd, both from Yaqub, who is Ahmad's teacher here, namely Yaqub bin Ibrahim bin Saad, with this same chain. He did not mention its wording, but rather narrated it like this narration here, following his narration of it via Yunus from Zuhri, and said, He related the hadith similarly to the hadith of Yunus, up to the end of the hadith of Umar bin Thabit. In the hadith from Yaqub, he said, My father said, meaning regarding his statement, "If I had left it to become clear," he said, "If his mother had left him to make his condition clear."This indicates that Yaqub's narration in Muslim is lengthy, containing the three hadiths found here, along with the hadith of Umar bin Thabit, whose wording we mentioned at 6360.Bukhari narrated, 13:83-84, the third of these hadiths, coming up at 6365, from Abdul-Aziz bin Abdullah from Ibrahim from Salih from Zuhri, but he did not narrate the rest of it through this route. Further clarification will come at 6365, Allah willing.Regarding the statement in this narration, "at the fortress of the sons of Muawiya," this is how it appears in Salih's narration from Zuhri here, and in Sahih Muslim. Nawawi said, Muslim mentioned in the narration of Hasan bin Ali Hulwani that it was the fortress of the sons of Mughala, with a damma on the mim and with a plain ayn, and the scholars said, the well known and recognized version is the first one. It appears that this is an error or a slip on the part of Salih, or of whoever narrated from him, and Hasan Hulwani, Muslim's teacher, was not alone in it, because it is established this way in Ahmad's narration here, as you can see.
