The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever prays over a funeral receives a qirat of reward."They asked, "Messenger of Allah, like this qirat of ours?"He replied, "No, rather like Mount Uhud, or even greater than Uhud."
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Yaala is Ibn Ubayd Tanafisi. Ismail is Ibn Abu Khalid Ahmasi. As for Salim bin Abdullah, this is how it appears in the three original manuscripts here and in the previous narration of this hadith, no. 4650. This creates the false impression that he is Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar, and we assumed he was the same person there and did not point this out. Then we reconsidered here and confirmed that he is in fact Salim Barrad, whose kunya is Abu Abdullah. It may be that the original text there read, "Salim Abu Abdullah told me," and here, "from Salim Abu Abdullah," but the copyists mistook it for Salim bin Abdullah and wrote it accordingly. What confirms the correctness of our view is that this hadith was also related in abridged form at no. 4867, transmitted by Ismail bin Abu Khalid from Salim Barrad from Ibn Umar. We have never found this hadith transmitted from Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar. Nor is it mentioned in the biography of Ismail bin Abu Khalid that he transmitted from Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar. Bukhari, in al-Kabir 2/2/109, 110, referred to this hadith in the biography of Salim Barrad, as we mentioned at no. 4867.This is further supported and confirmed by the fact that Munziri mentioned this hadith in al-Targheeb wal-Tarheeb 4:172 citing both versions from the Musnad, no. 4650 and this version, no. 6305, which are the two places where the three original manuscripts mistakenly wrote Salim bin Abdullah. He said, "Ahmad narrated it, and its narrators are trustworthy." Likewise, Haythami mentioned both of them in al-Zawaid, 30, attributing them to the Musnad, and he too said, "Its narrators are trustworthy."Had the copies available to Munziri and Haythami read Salim bin Abdullah, they would have said, or at least one of them would have said, "Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih," because Ahmad narrated hadith no. 4650 from Yahya Qattan, and narrated this hadith, no. 6305, from Yaala bin Ubayd, and both of them are among the narrators of the Sahih, as is Salim bin Abdullah bin Umar. As for Salim Abu Abdullah Barrad, he is trustworthy, as we said at no. 4867, but nothing of his was narrated in the Sahihayn. Their convention is to apply the description "narrators of the Sahih" to those transmitters found in the two Sahihs, and this is something clear and well known. This hadith was also referred to by Hafiz in al-Fath, 156, who attributed it also to Tabarani in al-Awsat, and Haythami likewise attributed it to Tabarani in al-Kabir and al-Awsat, and to Bazzar. See also no. 4453.As for his saying, "like this qirat of ours," this is how it stands, in the singular, in the manuscripts of the Musnad here, whereas what Munziri, Ibn Hajar, and Haythami quoted from the Musnad reads, "like these qirats of ours," in the plural.
