The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to grant some of those he sent out on military expeditions an extra share for themselves, distinct from the general division given to the entire army, while the fifth due to Allah Most High remained obligatory in all of this.

أن رسول الله ﷺ كان ينفل بعض من يبعث من السرايا لأنفسهم خاصة سوى قسم عامة الجيش والخمس في ذلك واجب لله تعالى
