I heard Abdullah bin Umar, Abdullah bin Abbas, and Abdullah bin Zubayr being asked about performing umrah before hajj in the form of tamattu. They replied, "Yes, that is the practice of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. You proceed and perform tawaf around the House and walk between Safa and Marwa, then you exit the state of ihram, even if that is just one day before the Day of Arafah. Then you enter ihram for hajj, so you will have combined an umrah and a hajj, or Allah will have combined for you an umrah and a hajj."

سمعت عبد الله بن عمر وعبد الله بن عباس وعبد الله بن الزبير سئلوا عن العمرة قبل الحج في المتعة فقالوا نعم سنة رسول الله ﷺ تقدم فتطوف بالبيت وبين الصفا والمروة ثم تحل وإن كان ذلك قبل يوم عرفة بيوم ثم تهل بالحج فتكون قد جمعت عمرة وحجة أو جمع الله لك عمرة وحجة
