Abdullah bin Umar reported,

He was standing at Arafat when he looked at the sun as it began to sink toward setting, like a shield, and he wept, and his weeping intensified.A man near him said, "Abu Abdul-Rahman, I have stood with you here many times before and you never did this."He replied, "I remembered the Messenger of Allah ﷺ standing in this very spot of mine, and he said, 'People, what remains of your worldly life compared to what has already passed is only like what remains of this day of yours compared to what has already passed of it.'"

أنه كان واقفا بعرفات فنظر إلى الشمس حين تدلت مثل الترس للغروب فبكى واشتد بكاؤه فقال له رجل عنده يا أبا عبد الرحمن قد وقفت معي مرارا لم تصنع هذا فقال ذكرت رسول الله ﷺ وهو واقف بمكاني هذا فقال أيها الناس إنه لم يبق من دنياكم فيما مضى منها إلا كما بقي من يومكم هذا فيما مضى منه
