Urwa bin Zubayr and I entered the mosque, and there we found Abdullah bin Umar, so we sat with him. We saw some men praying the Duha prayer, and we asked, "Abu Abdul-Rahman, what is this prayer?"He replied, "An innovation."Then we asked him, "How many times did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ perform Umra?"He answered, "Four times, one of them in Rajab."We were too embarrassed to contradict him. Then we heard Umm Muiminin Ayesha clearing her throat, so Urwa bin Zubayr said to her, "Mother of the Believers, do you not hear what Abu Abdul-Rahman is saying? He says the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Umra four times, one of them in Rajab."She replied, "May Allah have mercy on Abu Abdul-Rahman. He never performed an Umra without him being present at it, yet the Prophet ﷺ never performed any Umra in Rajab."
حدثنا عبيدة بن حميد عن منصور بن المعتمر
دخلت أنا وعروة بن الزبير المسجد فإذا نحن بعبد الله بن عمر فجالسناه قال فإذا رجال يصلون الضحى فقلنا يا أبا عبد الرحمن ما هذه الصلاة فقال بدعة فقلنا له كم اعتمر رسول الله ﷺ قال أربعا إحداهن في رجب قال فاستحيينا أن نرد عليه قال فسمعنا استنان أم المؤمنين عائشة فقال لها عروة بن الزبير يا أم المؤمنين ألا تسمعي ما يقول أبو عبد الرحمن يقول اعتمر رسول الله ﷺ أربعا إحداهن في رجب فقالت يرحم الله أبا عبد الرحمن أما إنه لم يعتمر عمرة إلا وهو شاهدها وما اعتمر شيئا في رجب
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari 3:478 and Muslim 1:357 both narrated it through Jareer, from Mansur, from Mujahid. We have already referred to it at 5383, and see also 5052 and 5416.Al-Istinan: Ibn Athir said, this means using the tooth-stick (siwak), and it is derived from "asnan" (teeth), meaning he passes it over them. Hafiz said in Fath (Bari), it means the sound of the siwak moving across her teeth.
