The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to a man, "You did such and such."The man replied, "No, by Allah, beside whom there is no god, I did not do it."Jibreel ﷺ then said to him, "He did do it, but Allah Most High has forgiven him because of his saying, 'There is no god but Allah.'"Hammad said, Thabit did not hear this directly from Ibn Umar. There was another man between them.
Its isnad is daif, due to a gap in the chain, since Thabit Bunani did not hear it directly from Ibn Umar, as Hammad bin Salama himself made clear. This hadith is a repetition of 5361 with this same isnad, and we have already discussed it in detail there. We add here that it also appears in Majma al-Zawaid 10:83, as we noted in the addendum 1753. It has also passed previously in brief, in similar wording, at 5380 and 5986, and see what comes later in the Musnad of Abu Hurairah at 8139.
