I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying from the pulpit, "Kill snakes, and kill the two-striped snake and the short-tailed one, for they snatch away eyesight and cause miscarriage."
حدثنا بشر بن شعيب بن أبي حمزة أخبرني أبي عن الزهري فذكر حديثا وقال سالم
سمعت رسول الله ﷺ قائما على المنبر يقول اقتلوا الحيات واقتلوا ذا الطفيتين والأبتر فإنهما يلتمسان البصر ويسقطان الحبل
Its isnad is sahih. Bishr bin Shuayb bin Abu Hamza, his reliability and his having heard from his father were established earlier at 112 and 480, and we add here that Bukhari mentioned him in al-Kabir 76/2/1 and said, "We left him alive in the year 212," meaning he died after that, after Bukhari parted from him, for he died in the year 213.Among the strange errors and hasty transmissions is what the Hafiz said in al-Tahdhib, that Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the daif narrators, and that he quoted Bukhari as saying, "We abandoned him." This is a mistake arising from an omission, for Bukhari only said, "We left him alive." The Hafiz also reported that Abu Hatim claimed that Ahmad never narrated from Bishr, then said, "That is not the case, rather his narration from him is in al-Musnad." The Hafiz was correct, and the hadith is abridged at 4557, where we discussed its explanation in detail."They both seek," in a copy in the margins of K and M, "they both efface."
