I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "Whoever dies without obedience to Allah dies with no defense to offer, and whoever dies having withdrawn his hand from a pledge of allegiance dies the death of misguidance."

سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول من مات على غير طاعة الله مات ولا حجة له ومن مات وقد نزع يده من بيعة كانت ميتته ميتة ضلالة

Its isnad is sahih. Bukayr is Bukayr bin Abdullah bin Ashaj, from Madinah, who settled in Egypt. His reliability was already established at 823.Here we add the statement of Ibn Wahb, "Whenever Malik mentioned Bukayr bin Ashaj, he would say, 'He was one of the scholars.'" Ahmad said, "Trustworthy and upright." Nasai said, "Trustworthy and firm." Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 1/2/113.The hadith is an abridged version of 5718.
