The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent us out on a military expedition. When we encountered the enemy, we were defeated at the first charge and fled. We arrived in Medina at night as a small group and went into hiding.Then we said to one another, "What if we went out to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and offered our apology to him?"So we went out, and when we met him, we said, "Messenger of Allah, we are the runaways."He replied, "Rather, you are those who regroup to fight again, and I am your rallying force."Aswad bin Amir said, "And I am the rallying force for every Muslim."
حدثنا إسحاق بن عيسى وأسود بن عامر قالا حدثنا شريك عن يزيد بن أبي زياد عن عبد الرحمن بن أبي ليلى
بعثنا رسول الله ﷺ في سرية فلما لقينا العدو انهزمنا في أول عادية فقدمنا المدينة في نفر ليلا فاختفينا ثم قلنا لو خرجنا إلى رسول الله ﷺ واعتذرنا إليه فخرجنا فلما لقيناه قلنا نحن الفرارون يا رسول الله قال بل أنتم العكارون وأنا فئتكم قال أسود بن عامر وأنا فئة كل مسلم
