He used to slaughter his sacrificial animal at the prayer ground on the Day of Sacrifice, and he mentioned that the Prophet ﷺ used to do the same.
Its isnad is sahih. Abu Usama is Hammad bin Usama Qurashi Kufi Hafiz. Usama is Ibn Zayd Laythi Madani. The hadith was narrated by Abu Dawud (2:58) in similar wording, from Uthman bin Abu Shayba, who is the brother of Abu Bakr Ibn Abu Shayba, from Abu Usama, with this same isnad. Ibn Majah (2:145) narrated only the marfu portion of it, through Abu Bakr Hanafi, from Usama bin Zayd. Bukhari narrated its meaning (10:7) through two other routes, one being mawquf and the other marfu, and Hafiz claimed that this represents a discrepancy in the reports transmitted from Nafi.It has been said, rather, the marfu version indicates the meaning of the mawquf version, since his statement in the mawquf version, "he used to slaughter at the slaughtering place of the Prophet ﷺ," means by this the prayer ground, as indicated by the marfu hadith which states this explicitly. But this is a forced interpretation with no need for it. I think Hafiz simply forgot this hadith found in the Musnad and in Abu Dawud, which combines both the marfu and mawquf versions, and which shows that Bukhari's two narrations are not actually an instance of discrepancy in reports from Nafi.Nasai (2:202) narrated the marfu portion of it through the same route that Bukhari narrated. Munziri said (2932), Muhallab said, "The imam only slaughters at the prayer ground so that the people can see him, and thereby slaughter with certainty after his slaughtering, having witnessed the manner of his slaughtering, since this is something that requires direct observation, and the slaughtering is hastened right after the prayer."And in Fath al-Bari it is stated that Malik said, in what Ibn Wahb related from him, "This is only done so that no one slaughters before him."
