The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a slain woman during one of his military expeditions, so he forbade the killing of women and children.
حدثنا حسين بن محمد حدثنا سليمان بن قرم عن زيد يعني ابن جبير عن نافع
مر رسول الله ﷺ في غزاة غزاها بامرأة مقتولة فنهى عن قتل النساء والصبيان
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Sulayman bin Qarm, with fatha on the qaf and no vowel on the ra, bin Muaz Dabbi Nahwi, is trustworthy. Abdullah bin Ahmad bin Hanbal said, "My father used to pursue the hadith of Qutba bin Abdul-Aziz, Sulayman bin Qarm, and Yazid bin Abdul-Aziz bin Siyah," and he said, "These are trustworthy people, and they are more complete in hadith than Sufyan and Shuba. They are men of written books, even though Sufyan and Shuba have better memory than them."Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 2/2/34 without mentioning any criticism of him, while Ibn Main, Abu Zura, Abu Hatim, and others declared him daif. In our view, Ahmad's testimony, his confirmation of his trustworthiness, and the soundness of his written books, together with Bukhari's refraining from criticizing him, carry more weight than the daif ruling of those who spoke against him. This hadith is a repetition of 5658.
