The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Every intoxicant is khamr, and every intoxicant is forbidden."
قال حدثنا حماد بن زيد عن أيوب عن نافع
قال رسول الله ﷺ كل مسكر خمر وكل مسكر حرام
Its chain of transmission is sahih. This is the first part of the hadith before it, so it is a repetition of 4863. Imam Ahmad alone separated it out, even though it has the very same chain of transmission, because his teacher related it to him twice in this way, and because he was keen to preserve the exact wording used in attributing the hadith to the Prophet. In this instance he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said," while in the other he said, "He attributed the hadith to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." The meaning of both is the same, but he wanted to be precise in narrating what he heard exactly as he heard it. See 5648.
