Abdullah bin Umar said to Umar bin Khattab, "Propose on my behalf for the daughter of Salih."Umar replied, "He has orphans under his care, and he would not prefer us over them."So Abdullah went to his uncle Zayd bin Khattab to make the proposal. Zayd went to Salih and said, "Abdullah bin Umar has sent me to you to propose for your daughter."Salih answered, "I have orphans under my care, and I would not impoverish my own flesh while elevating yours. I call you to witness that I have given her in marriage to so-and-so."But the girl's mother had her heart set on Abdullah bin Umar, so she came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Prophet of Allah, Abdullah bin Umar proposed for my daughter, but her father has married her off to an orphan under his guardianship without consulting her."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent for Salih and asked, "Did you marry off your daughter without consulting her?"He replied, "Yes."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Consult women regarding themselves," for she was a virgin.Salih said, "I only did this because of the dowry Ibn Umar would have given her. He shall have from my own wealth the equivalent of what he would have given her."
حدثنا يونس بن محمد حدثنا ليث عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب
أن عبد الله بن عمر قال لعمر بن الخطاب اخطب علي ابنة صالح فقال إن له يتامى ولم يكن ليؤثرنا عليهم فانطلق عبد الله إلى عمه زيد بن الخطاب ليخطب فانطلق زيد إلى صالح فقال إن عبد الله بن عمر أرسلني إليك يخطب ابنتك فقال لي يتامى ولم أكن لأترب لحمي وأرفع لحمكم أشهدكم أني قد أنكحتها فلانا وكان هوى أمها إلى عبد الله بن عمر فأتت رسول الله ﷺ فقالت يا نبي الله خطب عبد الله بن عمر ابنتي فأنكحها أبوها يتيما في حجره ولم يؤامرها فأرسل رسول الله ﷺ إلى صالح فقال أنكحت ابنتك ولم تؤامرها فقال نعم فقال أشيروا على النساء في أنفسهن وهي بكر فقال صالح فإنما فعلت هذا لما يصدقها ابن عمر فإن له في مالي مثل ما أعطاها
