I said to Ibn Umar, "I see you crowding to touch these two corners."He replied, "If I do so, it is because I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Touching them wipes away sins.' And I heard him say, 'Whoever circumambulates this House seven times, counting them carefully, will have a good deed recorded for him with every step, a sin erased, and a degree raised, and it is equal to freeing a slave.'"

Its chain of transmission is hasan. Hammam was from Basra, so it appears that he heard from Ataa after Ataa's memory had changed. The hadith appears in shortened form at 4462, and in full at 5621. Abu Dawud Tayalisi also narrated it from Hammam from Ataa, but he divided it into two hadiths, 1899 and 1900.The word "adl" with a fatha or a kasrah on the ain means "equivalent." It has also been said that with a fatha it refers to something that matches another of the same kind, while with a kasrah it refers to something not of the same kind, and others have said the opposite. This is what Ibn Athir stated.
