The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Fire is an enemy, so beware of it."Abdullah would go around checking the fires in his household and put them out before going to sleep.

قال رسول الله ﷺ النار عدو فاحذروها قال فكان عبد الله يتتبع نيران أهله فيطفئها قبل أن يبيت

Its isnad is sahih, and the meaning that fire is an enemy has already occurred in 5396, by way of Ibn Lahia from Ibn Hadi from Abdullah bin Dinar from Ibn Umar, but that version does not contain the detail of Ibn Umar tracking down the fires of his household. This is an additional meaning not found there, and there is an addition there not found here. Haythami mentioned neither this nor that in Majma al-Zawaid, and we have already pointed out his shortcoming there.
