What do you make of Hasan's hadith from the Prophet ﷺ? I sat with Ibn Umar for nearly two years, or a year and a half, and I did not hear him narrate from the Prophet ﷺ anything other than this.He said, "Some of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, among them Saad, went to eat some meat. A woman, one of the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, called out to them that it was the meat of a lizard, so they held back. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Eat,' or 'Feed others, for it is lawful,' or he said, 'There is no harm in it.'"It was Tawba who was uncertain about the wording. "But it is not among the foods I eat."

أرأيت حديث الحسن عن النبي ﷺ وقد قاعدت ابن عمر قريبا من سنتين أو سنة ونصف فلم أسمعه روى عن النبي ﷺ غير هذا قال كان ناس من أصحاب النبي ﷺ فيهم سعد فذهبوا يأكلون من لحم فنادتهم امرأة من بعض أزواج النبي ﷺ إنه لحم ضب فأمسكوا فقال رسول الله ﷺ كلوا أو اطعموا فإنه حلال وإنه لا بأس به توبة الذي شك فيه ولكنه ليس من طعامي
Its isnad is sahih. Shaybi is Amir bin Sharahil, the imam, the great memorizer, the reliable and firmly established authority. He states explicitly here that he sat with Ibn Umar for nearly two years, which makes it strange, given the soundness of the isnad reaching him with this report, that Ibn Abu Hatim should say in al-Marasil, 59, "I heard my father say, Shaybi did not hear from Ibn Umar!"This statement appears in al-Tahdhib, quoted from Ibn Abu Hatim, and Hafiz did not challenge it. Yet this sahih isnad from him refutes it and invalidates it. Shaybi was born early and died at an advanced age. He was born during the caliphate of Umar and lived to nearly ninety years old, dying in the year 109. See also 5530, 3219, and 2684.
