Thumama bin Hazn reported,

I was present at the house on the day Uthman was attacked. He looked out at them and said, "Call to me your two companions who have incited you against me."The two were summoned, and he said to them, "I adjure you by Allah, do you not know that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah, the mosque became too small for its people? He said, 'Who will buy this plot from his own wealth and use it on equal terms with the Muslims, and he will have something better than it in Paradise?' So I bought it from my own wealth and made it available to the Muslims, yet now you prevent me from praying even two rakahs in it."Then he said, "I adjure you by Allah, do you not know that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to Madinah, there was no well with sweet water from which to drink except the well of Rumah? The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Who will buy it from his own wealth so that his bucket will be alongside the buckets of the Muslims, and he will have something better than it in Paradise?' So I bought it from my own wealth, yet now you prevent me from drinking from it."Then he said, "Do you not know that I equipped the army of hardship?"They replied, "By Allah, yes."

حدثنا عبد الله حدثني محمد بن أبي بكر بن علي المقدمي حدثنا محمد بن عبد الله الأنصارى حدثنا هلال بن حق عن الجريري

عن ثمامة بن حزن القشيري قال

شهدت الدار يوم أصيب عثمان رضي الله عنه فاطلع عليهم اطلاعة فقال ادعوا لي صاحبيكم اللذين ألباكم علي فدعيا له فقال نشدتكما الله أتعلمان أن رسول الله ﷺ لما قدم المدينة ضاق المسجد بأهله فقال من يشتري هذه البقعة من خالص ماله فيكون فيها كالمسلمين وله خير منها في الجنة فاشتريتها من خالص مالي فجعلتها بين المسلمين وأنتم تمنعوني أن أصلي فيه ركعتين ثم قال أنشدكم الله أتعلمون أن رسول الله ﷺ لما قدم المدينة لم يكن فيها بئر يستعذب منه إلا رومة فقال رسول الله ﷺ من يشتريها من خالص ماله فيكون دلوه فيها كدلي المسلمين وله خير منها في الجنة فاشتريتها من خالص مالي فأنتم تمنعوني أن أشرب منها ثم قال هل تعلمون أني صاحب جيش العسرة قالوا اللهم نعم
