We set out from Mecca with Ibn Umar, traveling along with him in the company of Hafs bin Asim bin Umar and Masahiq bin Amr bin Khidash. The sun set on us, and one of them said, "The prayer."Ibn Umar did not answer him.Then the other said, "The prayer."Ibn Umar still did not answer him.Nafi said, "So I said to him, 'The prayer.'"He replied, "I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, whenever he was traveling in haste, combine these two prayers, and I want to combine them."Nafi said, "So we rode on for several miles, then he stopped and prayed."Yahya said, Nafi narrated this hadith to me on another occasion (Mura) and said, "We rode until close to a quarter of the night had passed, then he stopped and prayed."
حدثنا يزيد أخبرنا يحيى
أقبلنا مع ابن عمر من مكة ونحن نسير معه ومعه حفص بن عاصم بن عمر ومساحق بن عمرو بن خداش فغابت لنا الشمس فقال أحدهما الصلاة فلم يكلمه ثم قال له الآخر الصلاة فلم يكلمه فقال نافع فقلت له الصلاة فقال إني رأيت رسول الله ﷺ إذا عجل به السير جمع ما بين هاتين الصلاتين فأنا أريد أن أجمع بينهما قال فسرنا أميالا ثم نزل فصلى قال يحيى فحدثني نافع هذا الحديث مرة أخرى فقال سرنا إلى قريب من ربع الليل ثم نزل فصلى

Its chain of transmission is sahih. It is a longer version of 5120 and 5305.Another hadith about the supererogatory prayer during travel has already passed, narrated by Hafs bin Asim from Ibn Umar, that he was traveling with him, 5185.Musahiq bin Amr bin Khiddash, I do not know who he is. But there is no harm in this, for he is not among the narrators in the chain of transmission of this hadith, rather he was a witness to the story and one of those on the journey.
