I was in one of the military expeditions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when the men suddenly broke ranks and fled, and I was among those who fled.We said to one another, "What shall we do? We have run from the battlefield and have brought upon ourselves the wrath of Allah."Then we said, "Let us enter Madinah and spend the night there."Then we said, "Let us present ourselves to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. If there is a way for us to repent, well and good, otherwise we will leave."So we came to him before the dawn prayer. When he came out, he asked, "Who are these people?"We replied, "We are the ones who fled."He said, "No, rather you are the ones who regroup to fight again. I am your rallying force, and I am the rallying force of the Muslims."We then approached him and kissed his hand.

كنت في سرية من سرايا رسول الله ﷺ فحاص الناس حيصة وكنت فيمن حاص فقلنا كيف نصنع وقد فررنا من الزحف وبؤنا بالغضب ثم قلنا لو دخلنا المدينة فبتنا ثم قلنا لو عرضنا أنفسنا على رسول الله ﷺ فإن كانت له توبة وإلا ذهبنا فأتيناه قبل صلاة الغداة فخرج فقال من القوم قال فقلنا نحن الفرارون قال لا بل أنتم العكارون أنا فئتكم وأنا فئة المسلمين قال فأتيناه حتى قبلنا يده
