The Prophet ﷺ said to Ayesha, "Hand me the prayer mat from the mosque."She replied, "I have my menses."He said, "Is your menstruation in your hand?"
حدثنا حسن حدثنا زهير عن أبي إسحاق عن البهي
أن النبي ﷺ قال لعائشة ناوليني الخمرة من المسجد فقالت إني قد أحدثت فقال أوحيضتك في يدك
Its chain of transmission is sahih. Bahi, with the letter ba vowelled with fatha, the ha with kasra, and the doubled ya, is Abdullah, the freedman of Musab bin Zubayr. It is said that his father's name was Yasar. He is a trustworthy successor. Ibn Saad said, "He was trustworthy and known for hadith."The hadith is found in Majma al-Zawaid 1:282, where it is stated, "Ahmad narrated it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih."Its meaning is also confirmed through the hadith of Ayesha, recorded by Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, and Nasai. See Munziri, 254.Her saying "ahdathtu" means she menstruated. As for "hayditaki," Ibn Athir said, "Al-haydah, with kasra, is the noun referring to menstruation and to the state that the menstruating woman must observe of avoidance and abstention, similar to al-jilsah and al-qidah from al-julus and al-quud. As for al-haydah with fatha, it refers to a single occurrence of the flow of menstrual blood and its recurring instance."
