Muhammad al-Kindi and I sat with Abdullah bin Umar, then I got up from him and sat with Saeed bin Musayab. My companion came over, his face yellow and his color changed, and said, "Come over to me."I said, "Wasn't I just sitting with you a moment ago?"Saeed said, "Get up and go to your companion."So I went to him, and he said, "Did you not hear what Ibn Umar just said?"I said, "What did he say?"He said, "A man came to him and asked, 'Abu Abdul-Rahman, is there any harm in my swearing by the Kaabah?'He replied, 'Why would you swear by the Kaabah? When you swear by the Kaabah, swear by the Lord of the Kaabah. Umar used to say when he swore, "No, by my father." He swore by it one day in the presence of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not swear by your father, nor by anything other than Allah, for whoever swears by other than Allah has committed shirk."'"

جلست أنا ومحمد الكندي إلى عبد الله بن عمر ثم قمت من عنده فجلست إلى سعيد بن المسيب قال فجاء صاحبي وقد اصفر وجهه وتغير لونه فقال قم إلي قلت ألم أكن جالسا معك الساعة فقال سعيد قم إلى صاحبك قال فقمت إليه فقال ألم تسمع إلى ما قال ابن عمر قلت وما قال قال أتاه رجل فقال يا أبا عبد الرحمن أعلي جناح أن أحلف بالكعبة قال ولم تحلف بالكعبة إذا حلفت بالكعبة فاحلف برب الكعبة فإن عمر كان إذا حلف قال كلا وأبي فحلف بها يوما عند رسول الله ﷺ فقال رسول الله ﷺ لا تحلف بأبيك ولا بغير الله فإنه من حلف بغير الله فقد أشرك
