I entered the mosque and there I found Uthman bin Affan reclining on his cloak. Two water-carriers came to him bringing a dispute, and he judged between them. Then I approached him and looked at him closely. He was a handsome man, with traces of smallpox marks on his cheek, and his hair came down covering his forearms.

دخلت المسجد فإذا أنا بعثمان بن عفان رضي الله عنه متكئ على ردائه فأتاه سقاءان يختصمان إليه فقضى بينهما ثم أتيته فنظرت إليه فإذا رجل حسن الوجه بوجنته نكتات جدري وإذا شعره قد كسا ذراعيه
