The Prophet ﷺ said, "None of you should deliberately seek to pray just before sunrise or just before sunset."I asked Malik, "Was this from Abdullah?"He replied, "Yes."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن عن مالك
أن النبي ﷺ قال لا يتحرين أحدكم فيصلي قبل طلوع الشمس ولا عند غروبها قلت لمالك عن عبد الله قال نعم
Its isnad is sahih. It is found in Muwatta 1:221, narrated from Malik from Nafi from Abdullah bin Umar, and this is the narration of Yahya bin Yahya from Malik. But here, in the narration of Ibn Mahdi, Malik narrated it to him as mursal, then Ibn Mahdi asked him about it, and he supplied the connected isnad for him. This shows that Malik used to read the Muwatta, or have it read to him, through different routes, though they all lead to the same result, and all of them are sahih. The hadith appears at greater length at 4931, and see also 5010."La yataharrayn" (لا يتحرين), in manuscript م it is "la yataharra" (لا يتحري), and what is given here is a copy with this in its margin, while in the Muwatta it is "la yatahar" (لا يتحر).
