He divorced his wife while she was menstruating, so Umar asked the Prophet ﷺ about it. He said, "Tell him to take her back, and when she becomes pure, then let him divorce her."Bahz said, "Is it counted?"
حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي وبهز قالا حدثنا شعبة عن أنس بن سيرين قال بهز في حديثه أخبرني أنس بن سيرين سمعت
إنه طلق امرأته وهي حائض فسأل عمر النبي ﷺ فقال مره فليراجعها فإذا طهرت فليطلقها قال بهز أتحتسب
Its chain of transmission is sahih. The story of Ibn Umar divorcing his wife while she was menstruating has appeared several times through other routes, the most recent being 5228. However, this narration through this particular route is brief. It will come again in connected form through the narration of Bahz from Shubah at 5434, where it ends with, He said, I said, "Should it count as one of the divorces?" He said, "What else would it be?" It will also come again in detail through the route of Abdul-Malik bin Abu Sulayman from Anas bin Sirin at 6119.Muslim narrated it (1:423) through the route of Muhammad bin Jafar from Shubah, ending with, And I said to Ibn Umar, "Did that divorce count?" He said, "What else would it be?" He then narrated it in similar fashion through the route of Khalid bin Harith and Bahz from Shubah, and at the end of it he said, In their hadith it states, He said, I said, "Does it count?" He said, "What else would it be?"These narrations clarify the brevity found here in the account of Bahz's narration.
