Abdullah bin Abdullah and Salim bin Abdullah both spoke to Abdullah when Hajjaj came down to fight Ibn Zubayr. They said, "It will do you no harm to skip Hajj this year. We fear there may be fighting among the people and that you will be prevented from reaching the House."He replied, "If I am prevented from reaching it, I will do just as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did when the disbelievers of Quraysh stood between him and the House, and I was with him then. I call you to witness that I have bound myself to perform Umrah. If my way is left clear, I will complete my Umrah, and if I am prevented from reaching it, I will do just as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did when I was with him."Then he set out until he reached Dhul-Hulayfa, where he pronounced the talbiyah for Umrah. Then he recited, "You have indeed in the Messenger of Allah an excellent example" [Ahzab 33:21].Then he traveled on, and when he was out on the open ground of Bayda he said, "The two are one and the same matter. If I am prevented from Umrah, I am prevented from Hajj as well. I call you to witness that I have now bound myself to a Hajj along with my Umrah."So he went on until he bought a sacrificial animal at Qudayd. Then he performed a single circuit for both, around the House and between Safa and Marwa, and he remained in that state until the Day of Sacrifice.
حدثنا يحيى عن عبيد الله
أن عبد الله بن عبد الله وسالم بن عبد الله كلما عبد الله حين نزل الحجاج لقتال ابن الزبير فقالا لا يضرك أن لا تحج العام فإنا نخشى أن يكون بين الناس قتال وأن يحال بينك وبين البيت قال إن حيل بيني وبينه فعلت كما فعل رسول الله ﷺ وأنا معه حين حالت كفار قريش بينه وبين البيت أشهدكم أني قد أوجبت عمرة فإن خلي سبيلي قضيت عمرتي وإن حيل بيني وبينه فعلت كما فعل رسول الله ﷺ وأنا معه ثم خرج حتى أتى ذا الحليفة فلبى بعمرة ثم تلا {لقد كان لكم في رسول الله أسوة حسنة} ثم سار حتى إذا كان بظهر البيداء قال ما أمرهما إلا واحد إن حيل بيني وبين العمرة حيل بيني وبين الحج أشهدكم أني قد أوجبت حجة مع عمرتي فانطلق حتى ابتاع بقديد هديا ثم طاف لهما طوافا واحدا بالبيت وبالصفا والمروة ثم لم يزل كذلك إلى يوم النحر
